With less than three weeks remaining until Election Day, a recent poll in battleground Georgia suggests the former President Trump is maintaining his single-digit lead over Vice President Harris in the competition for the state’s vital 16 electoral votes.

On the other hand, a survey conducted in neighboring North Carolina, another crucial swing state with 16 electoral votes at stake, shows Harris with a slight advantage over Trump.

Based on two Quinnipiac University polls released on Wednesday, the GOP presidential nominee leads the Democratic Party standard-bearer by 52%-45% among likely voters in Georgia. Additionally, Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver each garner 1% of support.

Trump’s seven-point lead has increased slightly from his previous 50%-44% margin over Harris in Quinnipiac’s September survey in Georgia.

Most other public opinion surveys in Georgia suggest a much narrower race between the vice president and the former president. It is worth noting that President Biden narrowly defeated Trump in Georgia in 2020 to become the first Democrat to carry the state in a presidential race since former President Bill Clinton did so back in 1992.

In North Carolina, according to Quinnipiac’s poll there, Harris leads Trump by 49%-47%, while Oliver stands at 1%. This marks a shift from last month when Trump held a two-point advantage over Harris. Other recent polling generally indicates Trump having a slight edge over Harris in North Carolina, where he narrowly won against Biden four years ago.

Commenting on these findings, Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy highlighted that there are significant gender gaps with women predominantly supporting Harris and men leaning towards Trump as they head into the final stretch leading up to Election Day.

The release of these polls coincides with both states commencing early in-person voting this week. Notably, independent voters seem to favor Trump over Harris both in Georgia (49%-42%) and North Carolina (49%-45%).

Furthermore, the polls also reveal Democrat state Attorney General Josh Stein of North Carolina leading scandal-ridden Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson by a margin of 52%-40% among likely voters in their contest to succeed term-limited Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper.

These surveys were conducted from October 10-14, questioning 1,328 likely voters in Georgia and 1,031 likely voters in North Carolina. The margin of error was calculated at plus or minus 2.7 percentage points for Georgia and plus or minus 3.1 percentage points for North Carolina.
